Adirondak Chairs are Made for Relaxing

Adirondak chairs are those lovely low to the ground chairs that are frequently found on large front porches in the Midwest or on beaches in the Northwest.

Adirondak chairs are made of cedar and sit low to the ground. They allow the person sitting gin the chair to stretch out and put their feet in the water or the sand while lounging in the chair. These chairs come in all different colors. They are found all over the country, but they're especially popular in the Midwest and Northeast.

Advantages to Using Adirondak Chairs

The first and most important thing about using Adirondak chairs is that they are extremely comfortable. As mentioned before, they allow the user to sit in a lounge-style fashion with their feet in the sand or the water. Adirondak chairs are built with thick wood slats so they do not dig into your legs like other plastic lounge chairs. These chairs are low to the ground so they do not tip easily. They're extremely sturdy and will not break at the slightest incident.

Adirondak chairs are also made out of cedar, which is a very sturdy and durable wood. Western Red Cedar is the most common adirondak chair material. The durability of this wood makes it a great outdoor chair. It can withstand sun, water and dry climates. It also doesn't warp, unlike many other wood materials. Cedar naturally resists fungi and keeps a cool surface even in the summer. Cedar is also an expensive wood, which is why you'll only find really cheap adirondak chairs at a garage sale. Ordinarily these chairs cost more than $100 a piece. However, if you take good care of your chair, it will literally last a lifetime.

You can find Adirondak style chairs that are made from other wood. These chairs are typically made from oak, teak, pine or mahogany. Many people do not consider these chairs "real" adirondak chairs.

Protecting Your Chair

No matter how nice a product is, it won't stay nice for long if you don't protect it. The same goes for Adirondak chairs. Yes, cedar is a tough wood, but it does need some care. When you get your adirondak chairs, make sure put a finish on it. Though the sun will not ruin the functionality of the chair, it can ruin the look of the chair. UV rays will turn cedar to a silver color. To keep your adirondak chairs from discoloring, make sure to spray them with a UV resistant finish.

Stains are also a great way to protect your adirondak chairs from yearly wear and tear. Just apply a stain every spring and your adirondak chairs will look as good as new.
