Hammock Chair

Ever heard of a hammock chair? Almost everyone has heard of a hammock, but not so many people have heard of a hammock chair. Hammock chairs are great pieces of informal furniture that can be used inside or out. They're lightweight, portable, and come in an assortment of colors or can be dyed to suit your tastes.

One advantage to a hammock chair is that it takes up much less space than a standard hammock. It can be hung from a tree, but there are also hammock stands available, so you can relax on the front porch. Hammock chairs are very portable, perfect for camping or hiking because some of the nylon models weigh only a few ounces. They also fold up into very small packages. Hammock chair stands come in folding and tripod models that can be taken anywhere and set up in just a minute or two.

Hammock chairs evolved from hammocks, of course. But with a hammock, you're lying down. Hammock chairs modify that design by providing back support and allowing you to sit up, although in a very comfortable position. The traditional hammock chair is woven in a web-like design of rope. The rope itself can be of cotton, polyester, sisal, or any durable and strong fabric.

Hammock chairs also come in fabric designs, rather than rope. The chair itself can be constructed of durable cotton, polyester, nylon, or other fabrics, which again are available in a rainbow of colors. Sometimes the material will be padded or quilted for extra comfort. Quilted hammock chairs are great choices if you live in a cooler climate. Some of the materials are weather-resistant, so if your hammock chair gets left out during a rain squall, let it dry out and it's good to go.

Hammock chairs are typically hung from a hammock stand. The stands can be made of metal or wood, and painted to match your hammock chair, if it's a specific color. Some hammock chairs are built with a "spreader bar" across the top to keep the upper part of the chair from narrowing. This is very handy if you're a larger person or if you prefer to have a pillow on your hammock chair.

Be sure to check the weight limits on both the chair portion ad the hammock chair stand. Buy a chair and stand that gives you some leeway weight-wise. For instance, if you weigh 250 pounds, look for a chair and stand combination that will support 300 pounds or more. Constantly stressing your chair to its limits will shorten its life, so it's best to use care and have your chair for a longer period.

You will find that a hammock chair is a very comfortable alternative to standard chairs. New mothers love them because they make nursing very easy. You're held in just as comfortable position as your baby, with support for your arms and back.

You'll find hammock chairs very easy to get in and out of. They're great for small apartments or dorm rooms. Hang one from a joist, beam or rafter, and you've got yourself instant extra seating! For a fun, comfortable and colorful alternative to standard floor chairs, a hammock chair is the obvious choice.
