Teak Lounge Chairs: A Choice Luxury

Teak lounge chairs are the perfect outdoor accessories for any home. Teak lounge chairs are attractive, durable and will last for years if they're cared for.

What is Teak?

Teak is a particularly sturdy type of wood that, if taken good care of, will resist rotting. Most other woods are prone to rot. Teak is an oily, closed grain hardwood, which is why it is resistant to rot.

Teak lounge chairs are very popular because they're so sturdy. Most wooden lounge chairs are kept outside. This is why it's important to have lounge chairs that will hold up against the elements. Having a chair that can't withstand water or intense sun is not a good idea for an outdoor chair. These elements are extremely tough on substances and will quickly wear down other woods.

When you go looking for teak lounge chairs, look for chairs that are smooth. In other words, the wood should be clear of any flaws such as knots. Knots are dark brown circular spots in the wood that can cause the wood to crack or breakdown. It's also a good idea to steer clear of a chair that already has cracked wood. If the wood's already cracked, there's a good chance that the crack will spread.

Though it's not wise to get a chair that is already cracked, your chairs may get small cracks over the years. Very fine cracks are OK. They're actually a normal part of the wear and tear of teak lounge chairs. However, if the cracks are large, the chair is in bad shape.

Extending the Life of Your Chair

The best way to keep lounging in your teak lounge chairs year after year is to treat them well. Yes, teak is a hardy wood, but it still needs to be taken care of. At a bare minimum you need to wash your teak lounge chairs. All you have to do is spray the chairs to remove dirt and other debris. If you do this, your chairs will remain the natural silver gray color for years to come. If you prefer the look of persevered teak, you can treat your teak lounge chairs with a teak sealant. This will hold the oil in the wood and protect it from water and sun. Preserved teak lounge chairs are more of a honey color than the gray color that comes along with weathered teak lounge chairs.

Finding Teak Lounge Chairs

You can find teak lounge chairs on-line or at high-end patio furniture stores. Make sure to ask about a warranty before you purchase the furniture. This will protect you against being stuck with a broken or cracked chair. Teak lounge chairs can be relatively expensive, but they're worth it if you want attractive furniture that will last for a long time.
